Why you shouldn't wash your hair more than twice a week.

how to stop washing your hair daily in 4 easy steps

1. Aim to wash your hair 1-2 times per week.

We recommend for daily washers starting slow. Start by skipping a day here and there on the weekends and invest in a good dry shampoo like one of our faves. Rahua voluminous dry shampoo, $32 works like a charm. Sprinkle on your roots and blow dry in using a brush. Try not to use your fingers as they contain natural oils which isn't helping the cause.

Crafted with plant-based ingredients, this highly efficacious dry shampoo leaves hair and scalp clean and refreshed and makes styling effortless. Packaged in an environmentally friendly non-aerosol dispenser, it delivers texture, hold and volume.

2. Make sure your shampoo isn't contributing to the problem

We recommend doing two washes back to back first with a clarifying shampoo like Davines Solu, $28. This will help remove oily buildup that is in the hair. Then follow that with a nice gentle shampoo. We recommend starting with cool water whenever you wash your hair.

3. Only condition the ends of your hair.

This may seem like a no brainer but we're constantly surprised by clients telling us they put conditioner near their roots. NO NO! Stop! We alternate a light conditioner with weekly masks for our two shampoos.  A salon favorite for light conditioning is Rahua Voluminous Conditioner, $36. This rich yet weightless conditioner is perfect for someone looking to push out those shampoos! We have this product and all others mentioned in our Seattle green beauty boutique!

4.  remember the goal

We all know changing a ritual is a hard thing to do ..and no this doesn't mean you have to stop showering all together. Just remember it will get harder before its easier . Most of our clients that make the switch are so proud to say they dont know what they have been doing all this time!
